Meet Our Doctors

Our veterinarians are dedicated to employing the latest technology and current innovations in veterinary medicine to help your pet thrive through all seasons of their life. Our highly skilled veterinarians provide compassionate, first-rate animal healthcare while also working hard to build meaningful relationships with pet owners in a warm, inclusive and welcoming environment.

​Dr. Jay Van Kooy is a South Jersey native who has been involved in veterinary medicine for over 15 years. He started working as a kennel assistant during his high school years and as a veterinary technician through his college years. In 2011, he entered veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Jay has been practicing in the South Jersey area as a small animal veterinarian since 2015, with a special interest in reptile medicine. He volunteers with Pou Sante:  Amar Haiti, a nonprofit started by the University of Pennsylvania veterinary students and has traveled to Haiti three times on veterinary relief missions. Dr. Jay resides in Franklinville with his wife, Sam, and their son Finley. Dr. Jay has two dogs that you see in the practice quite frequently, Ruby and Kenny. He also has one cat, multiple goats and chickens, and a variety of rescued reptiles. Dr. Jay is an active runner and CrossFit enthusiast. His other interests include drone aviation, Eagles tailgating, and woodworking.

Dr. Mary Van Kooy has practiced veterinary medicine for over 25 years. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey and graduated Cum Laude with her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. Dr. Van Kooy’s veterinary interests include internal medicine, dermatology, and pathology. In 2019, Dr. Mary Van Kooy and her son, Dr. Jay Van Kooy purchased East Oak Animal Hospital together to fulfill Dr. Mary's dream of practicing veterinary medicine with her son. Dr. Mary Van Kooy resides in South Jersey with her husband and spunky cat Violet. She enjoys spending time at the beach and is a bird watcher enthusiast.

​Dr. Erica Briggs is a South Jersey native who began her journey in veterinary medicine at just 19 years old, working as a veterinary technician and quickly falling in love with the field. She earned her undergraduate degree in Geographic Information Science from Rowan University in 2019, followed by a master’s degree in Wildlife Conservation and Management from Unity University in 2020. In 2025, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida—go Gators!
​Dr. Briggs is a certified veterinary acupuncturist with a strong interest in rehabilitation and a passion for exotic animal medicine. She lives in Washington Township with her boyfriend and their beloved rescue crew: Dori, a pitbull/cattle dog mix; Bean, a dwarf lionhead rabbit; and Deborah, a bearded dragon. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Briggs is an avid coffee enthusiast and loves spending her downtime reading, hiking, and running. A lifelong Disney fan, she had the unique opportunity to work at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in both 2018 and 2020. Dr. Briggs is excited to start her career and provide compassionate, individualized care to all her patients—furry, scaly, or feathered.
